After completion of the Probationary 5 student levels.
They're 5 Levels of Technicians
Followed by 5 LEVELS of Instructor to Teacher (1st - 5th Rank).
Followed by 5 LEVELS of Master ( Honorary: 6th - 10th Rank)
Ranks Training:
Basically the forms teaches you to fight and defend. The advanced levels we study the 4th and 5th level Chin na (Stopping or pausing opponent breathing applications)
and 5th level (physiological manipulating of the opponent).
Example: They're nerves in the neck, take the" Carotid Sinus" for example, this nerve sends messages to your brain to regulate blood pressure. So when you strike it properly and over stimulate it, it tells the brain via the Vagus nerve that you blood pressure is very high(which it probably isn't)so in turn, the brain tells the heart to slow down (or Stop) and reduce output, thus causing a drastic drop in pressure. The victim passes out at the least, death can also result.
Also, in the "Ranks" we study the academics, physiology, history, medicines, longevity/health, teaching methods and school management and promotional technique, etc.
Note: All of the Information in the Health/Longevity/Medicinal Sections, are part of the Ranks certification process.

Note: These Forms are designed to promote REAL LIFE Self Defense and HEALTH. They're Combative Teaching-Learning Forms.
Most people are familiar with the other 90% plus styles; Traditional and or Sport.
Basically they're 3 types of Martial Arts.
Traditional: A lot of Empty , but historically significant and beautiful Forms.Sometimes with unrealistic Self Defense in Today's World Techniques, but look deceivingly convincing in the dojo.
Sport: If you are Big ,strong, confident and not facing a weapon or multiple opponents, maybe it will be o.k.(Maybe) if you have the right mind set and training. BUT, it's a SPORT !, NOT LIFE!", NO REFEREE ! when someone pulls a knife, a gun, out numbered, injured !... NO tapping out in REAL LIFE! You must see it through, unto attacker becomes victim. Be certain .
Combative: Some are too aggressive for today's non-war-zone laws. But some are more suited and can be adaptable in reality based defenses.
Here at C.A.I., We strive to be smart and defensive. Combative only if necessary. We are always seeking a reasonable peaceful solution first. However some people are not peaceful and reasonable and thats why we do what we do at C.A.I..

NEXT:
Complete The 3rd and final part of the forms ( Finishing Techniques) "The Dirty Dozen"
UNDERSTAND the beauty of these KUENS/ Forms/ Katas is the fact :
* Every move is a practical, defensive or combative in the same tool(Weapon)or motion . Not a tradition or "Empty" form. Our forms are real- Life, teaching to defend, escape, trap, control and fight and to be able to practice alone.
*Every move teaches applications in 5 directions.
*All techniques are done on both sides in the KUEN,promoting even- sidedness.(Symmetry)
*The KUENS start with the fundamentals,
progressing to the intermediates and then advanced.
So, as a Beginner you only work on the 1st 3rd of the KUEN, BUT,as an advanced you must do all of the form, thus always repeating the Beginner and Intermediate Techniques. This is a very good thing.
So basically the 1st 3rd of the form is the (basics ) progressing up to the 2nd part (Chi building, breathing and Dynamic Chin na, Intermediates) and finishing with the "Dirty Dozen" (Advanced Techniques).
And of course applications, reverses, and counters must be expertly executed as well as improvising knowledge, peaceful demeanor, and proper attitude, along with Assistant Instructor experience is required to be promoted to 1st Rank. (Where the Fun REALLY begins)!
Next: Demonstrate Basic Knowledge in FIRST-AID. and General Training injury relief and care.
Tai Chi 1 and 2 Basic Sets
Chi Kung Basic Sets 1-3
Promotions and Publicity
NOW THE 1st RANK TEST !!
TEST FOR 1st Rank: (3 - 5) Years Average time of continued diligent study.
Part A. Demonstrate all of the above listed with confidence and correctness.
Part B. Explain and identify the 18 Basic Tactics (Listed Below):
Sticking
Upon contact, stick to your opponent. This lets you take advantage of a number of things: sensitivity, control, chin na, etc.
Sensing
Strive to feel your opponent's next move, before or as it happens. You can accomplish this either physically or by anticipating it.
Flowing
Maintain an effortless flow. Each technique should flow into the next, adding power with each transition. You should also flow with your opponent's moves in the same manner.
Crossing
Close your opponent off. This effectively crosses them up so that they may not have an easy counter attack while they are exposed to your attacks.
Tieing
When possible, tie your opponent up with his own limbs. This is an extension of Closing, but can involve qinna and multiple limbs, as well.
Unbalancing
Keep your opponent off-balance. To control your opponent and defeat them almost at will, stealing their balance (both physically and mentally) is a must.
Baiting
Make your opponent do what you want by making certain actions seem attractive to them; give only the appearance of openings.
Pre-empting
When possible, beat them to the attack while they're starting to prepare for it. Why wait for them to execute their attack or get near finishing it, when you saw the preparation for it in the first place?
Dominating
Press your opponent at all times, dominating them. Do not let up until the situation is well in hand. (Do not just stop attacking after a single move succeeds.)
Yielding
Sometimes it's better to go with your opponent's movements, at least part of the way. That way, you can take advantage of their momentum, their intent and/or their focus and gain the upper hand.
Opening
Use your own opening/expanding to generate power, pushing off the very ground you stand upon. Basically, hit them with the biggest thing around while adding what you can.
Closing
Use your own weight and ability to contract to add to your power. This is the counterpart and complement to Opening.
Twisting
Use the power of your hips and legs by twisting. Use this to add power to your techniques, and use it to dissolve your opponent's.
Sinking Elbows
Keep your elbows down, relaxed and sunk. Use this to add power to your techniques, and to provide that extra protection of cover for your middle and high gates.
Maneuvering
Use your footwork to give you the advantage. Often, this means stepping off-line in such a manner as to close the opponent off and give you effective targets.
Timing
Take advantage of your opponent's timing and refine your own so that he can not do the same to you. You must stay alert and relaxed to apply this to the fullest.
Breathing
Use your breathing patterns to add power to your own movements and absorb your opponent's strikes. Timing and coordination are paramount here, as are relaxation and keeping a level head.
Synthesis
Combine Applications, Attitudes, and Tactics to enhance your fighting ability. Don't depend upon a single principle or movement alone to work, or even several in sequence. Combine them.
Again, these are just the most basic tactics which should be present. Each style has its own refinements and additions to these, as well as counters.
Part C. Explain and Demonstrate Knowledge of ALL of CAI's Programs and Specialized Seminars.
Part D. Explain all the Compliance and Legal Regulations required at CAI and General International Law.
Part E. Show and demonstrate you are of peaceful, Lawful and moral character inside and outside the school.
FINAL PHASE : Closed Door (Private) "Ability" Test With the Master.
PASS or FAIL
( 1st Rank Testing in the month of APRIL ONLY, If FAIL must wait to the next April).
Ranks Training:( Now the Fun Begins!)
Rank Training details are not listed, only a brief explanation of the general course of study is listed below. However a lot of the academic details can be found on other pages throughout this website.
Basically the forms teaches you to fight and defend. The advanced levels we study the 4th and 5th level Chin na (Stopping or pausing opponent breathing applications)
and 5th level (Physiological manipulating of the opponent).
Example: They're nerves in the neck , take the" Carotid Sinus" for example, this nerve sends messages to your brain to regulate blood pressure.
That was one example of the advanced Chin na. We study a lot more ,quick finishing techniques that can be done easier than you think. (Sorry, qualified, trusted Instructor's only).
Also, in the Ranks we study the Academics, Physiology, History, Medicines, Longevity/Health, Teaching and School Management and Promotional techniques, etc.
