PLEASE READ OUR DISCLAIMER

ANIMAL BITE- Wash wound with soap under running water and apply antibiotic ointment and dressing, When possible, the animal should be caught alive for rabies testing.

ASPHYXIATION- Call the local emergency number, then start rescue breathing.

BLEEDING- Elevate the wound above the heart if possible. Apply direct pressure to the wound with sterile compress until bleeding stops. Call emergency number if bleeding is severe.

BURN- If mild,,with skin unbroken and no blisters, flush with cool water until pain subsides. Apply a loose sterile dry dressing if necessary. If severe, call emergency number. Apply sterile compress and keep patient comfortably warm until advanced medical assistance arrives. DO NOT try to clean wound or break blisters.

CHEMICAL IN EYE- Call or have someone call emergency number. With the victims head turned to the side, continuously flush the injured eye with water, letting the water run away from the other eye.

CHOKING- Abdominal Thrust - Get behind the victim and wrap your arms around him or her about 1-2 inches above the naval.>>> Make a fist with one hand and place it,with the thumb knuckle pressing inward at the abdomen.>>>Grasp the fist with the other hand and give upward thrusts until object is removed or help arrives. NOTE: Ask the person if he or she can speak. If they can they're getting air, don't touch them you may make it worst.
If they can't speak or they're obviously choking, tell them that you're going to help them first, so that they understand why you are grabbing them.

CONVULSIONS- Place person on back on bed or rug. Loosen clothing. Turn head to side. DO NOT place blunt object between the patients teeth. If the convulsions do not stop, get medical attention immediately.

CUT (minor)-Apply mild antiseptic and sterile compress after washing with soap under warm running water.

FAINTING- If the victim feels faint, lower him or her to the ground. Lay the victim down on his or her back. If there are no signs of spinal injury or nausea, elevate the victims legs approximately 12 inches. Loosen any restrictive clothing and check for any other signs of injury. Call local emergency number if the victim remains unconscious for more than a few minutes.

FOREIGN BODY IN EYE- try to remove the object by having the victim blink several times.
If the object doesn't come out,try gently flushing the eye with water. DO NOT rub the eye. If the object still doesn't come out, the victim should receive professional medical attention.

FROSTBITE- Handle frostbitten area gently. DO NOT rub. Soak affected area in warm water(100-105 Degrees F.) Do not allow frostbitten area to touch container. Soak until frostbitten part looks red and feels warm. Loosely bandage with dry, sterile dressings. If fingers or toes are frostbitten, put sterile gauze between them.

HEAT STROKE and HEAT EXHAUSTION- Remove the victim from the heat. Loosen any tight clothing and apply cool, wet cloths to the skin. If the victim is conscious give him or her cool water,to drink slowly. Call emergency number if victim becomes unconscious.

HYPOTHERMIA-Call emergency number. Move victim to a warm place. Remove wet clothing and dry victim,if necessary. Warm victim gradually by wrapping the person in warm blankets or clothing. Apply heat pads or other heat sources if available, but not directly to the body. Give the victim warm, non-alcoholic and decaffeinated liquids to drink.

LOSS OF LIMB-If a limb is severed,it is important to properly protect the limb so that it can possibly be reattached. After the victim is cared for, the limb should be wrapped in a sterile gauze or clean material and placed in a clean plastic bag, garbage can or other suitable container. Pack ice around the limb on the OUTSIDE of the bag to keep the limb cold.Call ahead to the hospital to alert the staff there of the situation.

POISONING-Call local emergency number and follow their directions. DO NOT give the victim any food or drink or induce vomiting, unless specified by the medical authorities.

SHOCK-(INJURY RELATED)-Monitor breathing and consciousness. Help the victim rest as comfortably as possible. If uncertain as to his or her injuries, keep victim flat on the back. Otherwise elevate feet and legs 12 inches. Maintain normal body temperature;if the weather is cold or damp, place extra blankets or clothing over and under the victim; if the weather is hot provide shade.

SNAKEBITE- Call emergency number. Wash the injury. Keep the area still and at a lower level than the heart.Keep the victim still and quiet. If you can't get medical attention after 30 minutes, consider using a snakebite kit if available.

SPRAINS and FRACTURES- Apply ice to reduce swelling and pain.DO NOT try to straighten or move broken limbs. Apply a splint to immobilize the injured area if the victim must be transported. If you suspect a serious injury, call emergency number.

STING FROM INSECT- If possible, remove stinger by scraping it away using tweezers. Wash area with soap and water;cover it to keep clean. Apply a cold pack to reduce pain and swelling.Call emergency number immediately if body swells, patient collapses,or you know the victim is allergic to the sting.

UNCONSCIOUSNESS-Call emergency number immediately. If the person has signs of circulation, place him or her in the recovery position(i.e. lying on side, with head supported,so that the airway is open-but do not move if spinal injury is suspected).

RESCUE BREATHING:

* Determine consciousness by tapping the victim on the shoulder and asking loudly,"Are you okay?"

* Tilt the victim's head back so that the chin is pointing upward. Do not press the soft tissue under the chin,as this might obstruct the airway. If you suspect that an accident victim might have neck or back injuries, open the airway by placing the tips of your index and middle fingers on the corners of the person's jaw,and your thumbs on the person's cheekbones,to lift the jaw forward without tilting the head.
*Place your cheek and ear close to the victim's mouth and nose.
Look at the chest to see if it rises and falls. Listen and feel for air to be exhaled for about 5 seconds.
* If there is no breathing, pinch the victim's nostrils shut with the thumb and index finger of the hand that is pressing on the victim's forehead. Another way to prevent leakage of air when the victim's lungs are inflated is to press your cheek against the victim's nose.
* Blow air into the mouth by taking a deep breath and then sealing your mouth tightly around the victim's mouth. Initially, give 2 rescue(approx. 2 sec. ea.)breaths.
* Watch to see if the victim's chest rises.
* Stop when the chest is expanded, Raise your mouth;turn your head to the side and listen/feel for exhalation.
* Watch the chest to see if it falls.Check for signs of circulation, including movement or coughing in reponse to the rescue breaths. If there are signs of circulation, but no breathing, continue rescue breathing. If there are no signs of circulation, begin CPR.
*Repeat giving 1 breath every 5 seconds until victim starts breathing or advanced medical help arrives and takes over. Recheck for breathing and movement about every minute.

NOTE: Infant (up to 1 year old) and children (1-8 years)should be treated as described above, except the following:
*Do not tilt the head as far back as an adult's head.
*Both the mouth and nose should be sealed by the mouth on infants.
*Blow into the infant's mouth and nose once every 3 seconds with less pressure and volume than for a child.

How to Perform an Emergency Tracheotomy

This procedure, technically called a cricothyroidotomy, should be undertaken only when a person with a throat obstruction is not able to breathe at all-no gasping sounds, no coughing-and only after you have attempted to perform the Heimlich maneuver three times without dislodging the obstruction. If possible, someone should call for paramedics while you proceed.

What you will need

A first aid kit, if available
A razor blade or very sharp knife
A straw (two would be better) or a ballpoint pen with the inside (ink-filled tube) removed. If neither a straw nor a pen is available, use stiff paper or cardboard rolled into a tube. Good first aid kits may contain "trache" tubes.
There will not be time for sterilization of your tools, so do not bother; infection is the least of your worries at this point.

Find the indentation between the Adam's apple and the Cricoid cartilage.
Make a half-inch horizontal incision about one half inch deep.
Pinch the incision or insert your finger inside the slit to open it.
Insert your tube into the incision, roughly one-half to one inch deep.

How to Proceed

Find the person's Adam's apple (thyroid cartilage).
Move your finger about one inch down the neck until you feel another bulge. This is the cricoid cartilage. The indentation between the two is the cricothyroid membrane, where the incision will be made.
Take the razor blade or knife and make a half-inch horizontal incision. The cut should be about half an inch deep. There should not be too much blood.
Pinch the incision open or place your finger inside the slit to open it.
Insert your tube in the incision, roughly one-half to one inch deep.
Breathe into the tube with two quick breaths. Pause five seconds, then give one breath every five seconds.
You will see the chest rise and the person should regain consciousness if you have performed the procedure correctly. The person should be able to breathe on their own, albeit with some difficulty, until help arrives.

Complimentary Medicine

MIND-BODY MEDICINE: Meditation, Prayer, Eastern-styled close-knit families ( In the west, support groups). Enhances the mind's capacity to affect the bodily functions and symptoms.

BIOLOGICAL BASED THERAPIES: in comp.med. we use substances found in nature, such as foods, herbs and vitamins.

MANIPULATIVE AND BODY BASED METHODS: Massage, and Chuntian Academy's seasonal exercises, self massage, kneading, internal voice tones to stimulate specific internal organs based on the season and needs.

"CHI" / CHI KUNG / QI GONG : or in the west "Biofield" Because the world is getting smaller this before frowned upon therapy in the west is recently catching some people's attention.( I was introduced and since fascinated with it some 20 years ago. I can do an impressive demonstration showing it, but compared to what I've seen and heard ,I have a long ways to go. BUT, it really does exist !).
