(confidential membership)

At first, moving to a new country can be exciting and new, this is often called the "Honeymoon" period. However, after a while for some people; the very different new life, the lack of family, friends, familiar places, home foods and so on that you may miss, as well as the cultural differences and language barriers can all be overwhelming. Almost every task; from getting a phone, medical care, apartment to travel can be a struggle, especially in the beginning. For assistance the Shizuoka International community club will set you up with long-time expats here in Shizuoka to get you on the right path.
You may still have issues or stresses and find no support in Japan.
That being said, director Matt Plewes (an interfaith minister and emergency medical mental crisis trained), started an open- to- all confidential support group for expats living in Shizuoka.
Before Shizuoka had basically nothing in the form of support, and many expats drank too much, suffered depression, melt downs and had to basically deal with these issues alone. Unlike the west, Japan as a whole has little or no stress support for anyone including Japanese. (Thus the high suicide rate in Japan).
No matter how big or small the problem, you are welcomed to contact us. We our confidential and discreet. Substance abuse or just stress. We are available.
