Kung-Fu developed greatly in this period. However it was very external or hard. A priest, Zhang San Feng believed this to be contradictory to Taoist beliefs. So he designed a series of exercises to promote health and strength without being exhausting. This theory lead to the soft style known today as Tai Chi Chuan. Soon after, Kung-Fu divided into Hard Styles and Soft Styles. soft or internal Styles became very popular, and the hard or external styles, nearly became extinct.
